Main St Parent Newsletter 03/01/26

Hello Main Street Families,

On Friday last week we held our monthly assembly, and as always, it’s a great feeling to gather all our students together and celebrate positive attendance, and the Main Street Way!  During the month of March, we’ll be focusing on perseverance and resilience.  At the end of March, we’ll hold another assembly and get a chance to reward students who have attended school everyday this month!

Here’s a note from school counselor Elise Bankosh regarding perseverance and resilience:

This month, our students are focusing on Perseverance — pushing through challenges and obstacles, even when things feel tough. Perseverance is a vital life skill that helps students build resilience, determination, and the confidence to persist in the face of difficulties. At school, we are practicing these skills through goal-setting, organization, and focusing on what it takes to overcome challenges. I encourage you to explore perseverance at home as well, whether through daily habits, fun challenges, or conversations about times when your family has worked together to overcome a difficult challenge. These small moments help build big strength for the future.

Although state (CAASPP) testing doesn’t begin for 3rd and 4th grade until April 20th, and March 30th for 5th grade students, I am linking the schedule here so that you are aware of when your student will be testing in either English Language Arts (ELA) or math.  Science testing is only for 5th grade students.  Students take the tests in the morning.

I am linking the practice tests as the they will give your 3rd, 4th or 5th grade student an opportunity to better prepare for the CAASPP tests.

On Friday, March 6, fifth grade students who are participating in the Invention Convention, will be showcasing their idea in the Main Street library, from 8:30 until 11:45 AM.

Clear your calendars for Friday, March 20th, when the Heron Hustle (Jog A Thon) takes place at the Soquel High Track!  This was a phenomenal success last year and we are very much looking forward to this year’s edition.  More details will come in the following weeks.

A reminder that students walking, skating or riding to school must enter the school and be in the supervised areas.  Students are not permitted to loiter outside of the supervised areas (playstructures and blacktop).

Another opportunity to see the Warriors is through the Santa Cruz County SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area) who are partnering with the Warriors and holding a disability awareness night on March 27th. See this link for more information.

Thank you for sending your students to us on a daily basis, the more your child is in school, the more they will learn!  If your child needs to be absent you can access the short term independent study option here.  Students who complete the short term independent study receive attendance credit.

Hola familias de Main Street,

El viernes pasado celebramos nuestra asamblea mensual y, como siempre, es una gran alegría reunir a todos nuestros estudiantes y celebrar la asistencia positiva, ¡y el estilo Main Street! Durante marzo, nos centraremos en la perseverancia y la resiliencia. A finales de marzo, celebraremos otra asamblea y tendremos la oportunidad de premiar a los estudiantes que han asistido a la escuela todos los días de este mes.

Aquí hay una nota de la consejera escolar Elise Bankosh sobre la perseverancia y la resiliencia:

Este mes, nuestros estudiantes se centrarán en Perseverancia Superar desafíos y obstáculos, incluso cuando las cosas se ponen difíciles. La perseverancia es una habilidad vital que ayuda a los estudiantes a desarrollar resiliencia, determinación y la confianza para perseverar ante las dificultades. En la escuela, practicamos estas habilidades mediante el establecimiento de metas, la organización y el enfoque en lo que se necesita para superar los desafíos. Los animo a explorar la perseverancia también en casa, ya sea a través de hábitos diarios, retos divertidos o conversaciones sobre momentos en que su familia ha trabajado unida para superar un desafío difícil. Estos pequeños momentos ayudan a fortalecer el futuro.

Aunque las pruebas estatales (CAASPP) no comienzan para el 3.er y 4.º grado hasta el 20 de abril, y el 30 de marzo para los estudiantes de 5.º grado, estoy vinculando el cronograma aquí para que sepa cuándo su estudiante tendrá la prueba de Lengua y Literatura Inglesas (ELA) o Matemáticas. La prueba de Ciencias es solo para estudiantes de quinto grado. Los estudiantes toman las pruebas por la mañana.

Estoy enlazando los exámenes de práctica como ellos lo harán ofrezca a su estudiante de 3º, 4º o 5º grado la oportunidad de prepararse mejor para las pruebas CAASPP.

El viernes 6 de marzo, los estudiantes de quinto grado que participan en la Convención de Invenciones, mostrarán su idea en la biblioteca de Main Street, desde las 8:30 hasta las 11:45.

Agenden sus agendas para el viernes 20 de marzo, cuando se celebre el Heron Hustle (Jog-A-Thon) en la pista de Soquel High. Fue un éxito rotundo el año pasado y estamos muy emocionados por la edición de este año. Les daremos más detalles en las próximas semanas.

Se recuerda que los estudiantes que caminan, patinan o van en bicicleta a la escuela deben ingresar a la escuela y permanecer en las áreas supervisadas. No se permite que los estudiantes merodeen fuera de las áreas supervisadas (zonas de juego y asfalto).

Otra oportunidad de ver a los Warriors es a través del SELPA del condado de Santa Cruz (Área del Plan Local de Educación Especial) que se están asociando con el Warriors y celebrando una noche de concientización sobre la discapacidad el 27 de marzo. Vea este enlace para más información.

Gracias por enviarnos a sus alumnos a diario. Cuanto más tiempo esté su hijo en la escuela, más aprenderá. Si su hijo necesita ausentarse, puede acceder a la opción de estudio independiente a corto plazo aquí. Los estudiantes que completan el estudio independiente a corto plazo reciben crédito de asistencia.
