Main St Parent Newsletter 10/19/25

Hello Main Street Families,

Today is the last day to get your tickets for Drive For Schools! As of late Friday ticket sales for Main Street are almost at $10,000!  Thank you to all the families that have stepped up and purchased tickets… you are already a winner because you are supporting your child’s experience at Main Street.  We still have a ways to go to hit our goal of $15,000. Here is the link to make a digital purchase.  Families have until 11:59 PM today to get tickets and with some more Main Street commitment we will hit our goal.  Thank you for your support and for the work that FOMS have been doing to raise funds for our school!

Next week is College and Career week!  Cabrillo College is hosting a College and Career Family Night on Monday, October 20th.  At school this week we’ll have adults visiting classes to share their college and career stories.  I will be visiting classes this week to share my own college and career pathway, and we are encouraging students to wear any college clothing they have on Monday, Oct 20th.  On Friday, Oct 24th students may dress for the career they would like to be in when they are older.  I also encourage families to discuss their college and career experiences with your student(s).

On October 31, there will be a Halloween event at Main Street where participating students will parade on the black top.  The event begins at 8:40 AM and goes until approximately 9:20 AM. This event will be MC’d by our intervention teacher Beth Willen.  Classes will gather on the black top with their buddy class and at the appropriate time, each buddy class pairing will parade around the blacktop.  Please note that replica weapons are not permitted on campus, and that if a costume includes a mask, it may only be worn during the parade part of the day (not during breaks or class time).  If your student does not want to participate in the Halloween parade, be sure to let your child’s teacher know.

On November 4th, Superintendent Scott Turnbull will be discussing the Comprehensive School Safety Plan Pt II from 3:30-4:30 PM at the District Offices.  He is requesting that at least two parents from each school site be in attendance (physically or virtually).  If you are available to attend this meeting please email me (cbroadhurst@sused.org).

The field here at Main Street will be resurfaced in the future. If you want to see what a new field looks like, the New Brighton Middle School field will be officially opened on  November 6, at 3:30 PM.

At SUESD, we believe student mental health is the foundation for learning. Each of our schools has caring counselors who provide classroom lessons, brief check-ins, crisis support, and parent/staff consultation.

Through the state’s Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), we can now be reimbursed for these services—at no cost to families. Billing will never affect copays, deductibles, or plan limits, and students will continue to receive the same support whether or not they have insurance. For more information on included billable services, please see this flyer.

Thank you for sending your students to us on a daily basis, the more your child is in school, the more they will learn!  If your child needs to be absent you can access the short term independent study option here.  Students who complete the short term independent study receive attendance credit.  

In closing, thank you for driving safely in our parking lot;  your safety and student safety is of the utmost importance.  Also, please do not leave your car unattended in the pick up and drop off lanes.  If you need to exit your vehicle, please park in the parking lot.

Hola familias de Main Street,

Hoy es el último día para conseguir tus entradas para Campaña por las escuelas¡ Ayer viernes, la venta de entradas para Main Street casi alcanzó los $10,000! Gracias a todas las familias que se unieron y compraron sus entradas... ¡Ya son ganadores porque están apoyando la experiencia de sus hijos en Main Street! Aún nos queda mucho camino por recorrer para alcanzar nuestra meta de $15,000. Aquí está el enlace para compra digital.  Las familias tienen hasta las 23:59 de hoy para conseguir sus entradas y, con un poco más de compromiso por parte de Main Street, alcanzaremos nuestra meta. ¡Gracias por su apoyo y por el trabajo que FOMS ha estado realizando para recaudar fondos para nuestra escuela!

¡La próxima semana es la Semana de la Universidad y la Carrera! Cabrillo College organiza una Noche familiar sobre la universidad y la carrera profesional el lunes 20 de octubre. En la escuela esta semana tendremos adultos que visitan clases para compartir sus historias universitarias y profesionales. Esta semana visitaré las clases para compartir mi propia trayectoria universitaria y profesional, y animamos a los estudiantes a usar la ropa universitaria que tengan el lunes 20 de octubre. El viernes 24 de octubre, los estudiantes pueden vestirse según la carrera que les gustaría seguir cuando sean mayores. También animo a las familias a hablar de sus experiencias universitarias y profesionales con sus estudiantes.

El 31 de octubre, habrá un evento de Halloween en la Calle Principal, donde los estudiantes participantes desfilarán por el asfalto. El evento comienza a las 8:40 a. m. y dura aproximadamente hasta las 9:20 a. m. La maestra de intervención, Beth Willen, será la presentadora. Las clases se reunirán en el asfalto con sus compañeros de clase y, a la hora indicada, cada pareja desfilará por el asfalto. Tenga en cuenta que no se permiten réplicas de armas en el campus, y que si un disfraz incluye máscara, solo se puede usar durante el desfile (no durante los descansos ni las clases). Si su estudiante no desea participar en el desfile de Halloween, asegúrese de informar a su maestro.

El 4 de noviembre, el superintendente Scott Turnbull hablará sobre el Plan Integral de Seguridad Escolar (Parte II) de 15:30 a 16:30 h en las oficinas del distrito. El campo aquí en Main Street será repavimentado en el futuro. Si quieres ver cómo luce un campo nuevo, Campo de la escuela secundaria New Brighton.  La inauguración oficial se realizará el día 6 de noviembre a las 15.30 horas.

En SUESD, creemos que la salud mental de los estudiantes es fundamental para el aprendizaje. Cada escuela cuenta con consejeros atentos que ofrecen clases, sesiones breves de seguimiento, apoyo en situaciones de crisis y consultas con padres y personal.

A través de la Iniciativa de Salud Conductual para Niños y Jóvenes (CYBHI) del estado, ahora podemos recibir reembolsos por estos servicios sin costo para las familias. La facturación no afectará los copagos, deducibles ni los límites del plan, y los estudiantes seguirán recibiendo el mismo apoyo, tengan o no seguro. Gracias por enviarnos a sus alumnos a diario. Cuanto más tiempo esté su hijo en la escuela, más aprenderá. Si su hijo necesita ausentarse, puede acceder a la opción de estudio independiente a corto plazo aquí. Los estudiantes que completan el estudio independiente a corto plazo reciben crédito de asistencia.
