Main St Parent Newsletter 11/26/25

Hello Main Street Families,

Last Friday we enjoyed a wonderful celebration for Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, thanks to all who were able to join the march and also thanks to Coach Janelle for organizing.  Many students, families and staff gathered in this now Main Street tradition, thank you to all participants.

Thank you to Friends of Main Street (FOMS) for organizing the ‘Forever Young’ prom on Saturday, November 15th, although I was not able to attend, I’m sure it was a fantastic event, kudos to FOMS for putting the Fun in Fundraising.  The FOMS group has their community meeting this Tuesday, November 18th, from 6:30-8:30 PM in the library.

Last Friday, Superintendent Scott Turnbull shared some attendance data in his weekly ‘Soquel Scoop’ showing that attendance for Main Street has increased 0.4 % for the time period of August - October, compared to last year.  Thank you to all families for helping us to achieve this increase  by sending your student (s) to school on a regular basis.  The collective increase across all schools has the district attendance rate up 1.1% to 96.4%.

On the subject of attendance, if your student is one of a number that often come to school late or tardy, I’ll be reaching out to you to see how we can help get your child in class on time.   Coming to school late (less than 30 mins late) or tardy (more than 30 minutes late) is disruptive to their learning and being punctual is a skill that helps throughout life.

The school office has let me know that if families have elastic waist pants or shorts that their child has grown out of or no longer wears, they would appreciate them being donated to the office, to use when kids need to change for various reasons.

At SUESD, we believe student mental health is the foundation for learning. Each of our schools has caring counselors who provide classroom lessons, brief check-ins, crisis support, and parent/staff consultation.

Through the state’s Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), we can now be reimbursed for these services—at no cost to families. Billing will never affect copays, deductibles, or plan limits, and students will continue to receive the same support whether or not they have insurance. For more information on included billable services, please see this flyer.

Thank you for sending your students to us on a daily basis, the more your child is in school, the more they will learn!  If your child needs to be absent you can access the short term independent study option here.  Students who complete the short term independent study receive attendance credit.

12/22/25 - 1/5/26:     Winter Break, no school for students

Hola familias de Main Street,

El viernes pasado disfrutamos de una maravillosa celebración del Día de la Caminata a la Escuela de Ruby Bridges. Gracias a todos los que pudieron participar en la marcha y también gracias a la entrenadora Janelle por organizarla. Muchos estudiantes, familias y personal se reunieron en esta ya tradicional marcha de la calle principal, Gracias a todos los participantes.

Gracias a Friends of Main Street (FOMS) por organizar el baile de graduación «Forever Young» el sábado 15 de noviembre. Aunque no pude asistir, estoy segura de que fue un evento fantástico. ¡Enhorabuena a FOMS por hacer que la recaudación de fondos sea divertida! El grupo FOMS tendrá su reunión comunitaria este martes 18 de noviembre, de 18:30 a 20:30 en la biblioteca.

El viernes pasado, el superintendente Scott Turnbull compartió datos de asistencia en su informe semanal «Soquel Scoop», mostrando que la asistencia en la escuela Main Street aumentó un 0.4 % durante el período de agosto a octubre, en comparación con el año anterior. Agradecemos a todas las familias por contribuir a este aumento enviando a sus hijos a la escuela con regularidad. El incremento general en todas las escuelas eleva la tasa de asistencia del distrito un 1.1 %, alcanzando el 96.4 %.

En cuanto a la asistencia, si su hijo/a es uno de los que suelen llegar tarde a clase, me pondré en contacto con usted para ver cómo podemos ayudarle a llegar a tiempo. Llegar tarde (menos de 30 minutos tarde) o con retraso (más de 30 minutos tarde) perjudica su aprendizaje, y la puntualidad es una habilidad útil para toda la vida.

La secretaría del colegio me ha informado de que si las familias tienen pantalones o shorts con cintura elástica que a sus hijos les hayan quedado pequeños o que ya no usen, agradecerán que los donaran a la secretaría para usarlos cuando los niños necesitan cambiarse por diversos motivos.

En SUESD, creemos que la salud mental de los estudiantes es la base del aprendizaje. Cada una de nuestras escuelas cuenta con consejeros atentos que brindan clases, breves seguimientos, apoyo en crisis y consultas para padres y personal.

Gracias a la Iniciativa de Salud Conductual Infantil y Juvenil (CYBHI) del estado, ahora podemos recibir reembolsos por estos servicios, sin costo alguno para las familias. La facturación no afectará los copagos, deducibles ni límites del plan, y los estudiantes seguirán recibiendo el mismo apoyo, tengan o no seguro médico.
