Main St Parent Newsletter 9/1/25

Hello Main Street Families,

Welcome to September, I hope you had an enjoyable Labor Day.   In this upcoming week on Wednesday, September 3, school photographs will be happening and on Thursday, September 4th,  I am hoping to see you all at the Main Street Back to School Night (BTSN),  from 6:00-7:15 PM.

This night is an opportunity  to learn about your student’s classroom, their teacher and curricula. While most school programs are designed for the whole family, BTSN is a parent-oriented meeting, and we strongly recommend that families arrange for childcare at home this evening.  Please do not park in the staff parking lot; 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade staff who are presenting later, may arrive after some parents and need a spot to park.

The BTSN schedule is:

6:00 – 6:25 PM: Classroom presentations for TK/K, 1st and 2nd 

6:25 - 6:50 PM: Principal Address and FOMS Presentation (in the Multi-Use room)

6:50 - 7:15 M: Classroom presentations for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades

With regard to parent volunteers and fingerprinting, there has been a change in plans.  There will NO longer be fingerprinting at Back to School Night.  Parents that would like to volunteer will need to complete the form in the office and then be fingerprinted at the COE.  

As we look ahead on the calendar, some upcoming districtwide observances in SUESD include Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15), Constitution and Citizenship Day (September 17), LGBTQ+ History Month (October), and College & Career Week (October 20-25). 

Last year (24/25) Main Street reduced the Chronic Absenteeism rate to 10.18%.  For the previous year (23/24), the rate was 15.5%.  As positive student outcomes are associated with regular attendance we are always looking for ways to incentivize students/families to attend school and I’d like to share a couple of strategies that we are using.  At our monthly assemblies I am randomly selecting three students who have had 100% attendance for the previous four weeks and treating them to a $5 gift card for the Ugly Mug.  Also, the class that has the highest attendance rate for the previous four weeks gets an extra recess.  Thank you in advance for all you are doing to ensure that your student has good attendance!

This month, we highlighted the value of Respect — seeing the worth in all people and things and treating them with care. Respect is a crucial component of building strong relationships, fostering a positive community, and helping students develop their leadership and conflict resolution skills. At school, we are practicing what respect looks like in our words, actions, and choices, both in and out of the classroom. I encourage you to have conversations at home about what respect means in your family, whether it’s through practicing active listening, spending quality time together without distractions, or simply noticing and celebrating respectful moments throughout the day.

In closing, please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the pick up and drop off lines.  If you need to get out of your car, park in the parking lot.  Also, students should not be on campus before 7:50 AM as we do not have an adult supervising the playground until that time.

A note regarding an upcoming closure that will affect commute times: The Bay/Porter off-ramp and northbound on-ramp will be closed for 8 months starting next Thursday.

Hola familias de Main Street,

Bienvenidos a septiembre, espero que hayan pasado un agradable Día del Trabajo.Esta próxima semana, el miércoles 3 de septiembre, se realizarán las fotografías escolares y el jueves 4 de septiembre,Espero verlos a todos en la Noche de regreso a clases de Main Street (BTSN), de 6:00 a 7:15 p. m. 

Esta noche es una oportunidad para aprender sobre el aula de su estudiante, su maestro y su currículo. Si bien la mayoría de los programas escolares están diseñados para toda la familia,BTSN es una reunión orientada a los padres, y recomendamos encarecidamente que las familias organicen el cuidado de los niños en casa esta noche. Por favor no estacionar en el estacionamiento del personal;El personal de 3º, 4º y 5º grado que se presente más tarde puede llegar después de algunos padres y necesitar un lugar para estacionar.

El horario de BTSN es:

6:00 – 6:25 PM: Presentaciones en el aula para TK/K, 1º y 2º

6:25 - 6:50 PM: Dirección principal y FOMS Presentación (en la Sala de Usos Múltiples)

6:50 - 7:15 PM: Presentaciones en el aula para 3º, 4º y 5º grado

Con respecto a los padres voluntarios y la toma de huellas dactilares, ha habido un cambio de planes. Ya no se tomarán huellas dactilares durante la Noche de Regreso a Clases. Los padres que deseen ser voluntarios deberán completar el formulario en la oficina y luego tomarse las huellas dactilares en el COE.

Al mirar el calendario, algunas de las próximas celebraciones del distrito en SUESD incluyen el Mes de la Herencia Hispana (del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre), el Día de la Constitución y la Ciudadanía (17 de septiembre), el Mes de la Historia LGBTQ+ (octubre) y la Semana de la Universidad y la Carrera (del 20 al 25 de octubre).

El año pasado (24/25), Main Street redujo la tasa de ausentismo crónico al 10.18%. El año anterior (23/24), la tasa fue del 15.5%. Dado que los buenos resultados estudiantiles se asocian con la asistencia regular, siempre buscamos maneras de incentivar a los estudiantes y sus familias a asistir a la escuela, y me gustaría compartir un par de estrategias que estamos utilizando. En nuestras asambleas mensuales, seleccionó al azar a tres estudiantes con un 100% de asistencia durante las últimas cuatro semanas y les regaló una tarjeta de regalo de $5 para la Taza Fea. Además, la clase con la tasa de asistencia más alta durante las últimas cuatro semanas tiene un recreo adicional. ¡Gracias de antemano por todo lo que están haciendo para asegurar que su estudiante tenga una buena asistencia!

Este mes, destacamos el valor de Respeto— Reconocer el valor de todas las personas y cosas, y tratarlas con cariño. El respeto es fundamental para construir relaciones sólidas, fomentar una comunidad positiva y ayudar a los estudiantes a desarrollar sus habilidades de liderazgo y resolución de conflictos. En la escuela, practicamos cómo se refleja el respeto en nuestras palabras, acciones y decisiones, tanto dentro como fuera del aula. Los animo a conversar en casa sobre lo que significa el respeto en su familia, ya sea practicando la escucha activa, pasando tiempo de calidad juntos sin distracciones o simplemente observando y celebrando los momentos de respeto a lo largo del día.

Para terminar, Por favor, no deje su vehículo desatendido en las líneas de recogida y entrega. Si necesita salir de su coche, estaciónelo en el estacionamiento. Además, los estudiantes no deben estar en el campus antes de las 7:50 a. m., ya que no hay un adulto supervisando el patio de recreo hasta esa hora.

Una nota sobre un próximo cierre que afectará los tiempos de viaje:La rampa de salida de Bay/Porter y la rampa de entrada en dirección norte estarán cerradas durante 8 meses a partir del próximo jueves.
