Hello Main Street Families,

Parent/teacher conferences will be held during the week of October 6-10th.  If you have not already signed up for a conference, please reach out to your child's teacher to get one on the calendar.

Drive For Schools HAPPENING NOW through October 19th! Sponsored by the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, our school's biggest Fall fundraiser, Drive For Schools, is currently underway. And with a fundraising goal of $15,000, we need YOUR HELP selling raffle tickets! Keep an eye out for a white envelope being sent home with your student (some went home last week). In it, you will find 12 tickets, which are priced at $5 for 1 ticket or $25 for 6. As your child sells tickets, collect cash/checks and return them alongside the filled out tickets to the front office or your child's teacher. Need more tickets? AMAZING! Head to the front office during and ask Melina or Sarah. 

There are some INCREDIBLE prizes up for grabs this year - including the grand prize of $25,000! Find the complete prize list here. The best part? Every dollar raised stays right here at Main Street and will be used to expand the learning opportunities for our kids. There will be raffle prizes available to student participants and if we reach our school-wide goal, the students will get to take part in an ICE CREAM SOCIAL! Send texts, post on social media, talk to your friends, neighbors and family! Let's go, Great Blue Heron crew!

FOMS Community Meeting THIS Tuesday, September 23rd from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the library - join Friends Of Main Street and hear about upcoming events, important announcements and have your voice heard. Nominations will also be made for a currently vacant board seat. For those unable to join in person, please find the Zoom link on the Friends Of Main Street site.

Do you have a career that you are excited about and willing to share with our students? Are you able to visit classrooms and speak with our students?  Our school counselor Elise Bankosh is planning a Career Cafe during the week of October 21-25th.  One to two parents per class are needed, so if you are interested, please email Elise Bankosh, Main Street Counselor at ebankosh@suesd.org or fill out this google form.  https://forms.gle/mEqHk6fsD41AMWdp6 

Mental Health Supports in SUESD

At SUESD, we believe student mental health is the foundation for academic success. Each school has caring counselors, and through the state’s Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), we can now be reimbursed for the support we already provide.

What this means for families:

• No cost to you. Billing will never affect your copays, deductibles, or plan limits.

• Sustained support. Reimbursement helps us keep counselors in place, even as other districts cut positions.

• Same services. Students will continue to receive the same support, whether or not they have insurance.

Services covered include:

• Classroom lessons on SEL, coping skills, and conflict resolution

• Schoolwide presentations (bullying prevention, stress management, etc.)

• Brief check-ins, drop-in support, and crisis response

• Restorative circles and attendance interventions (SART/DARB)

• Re-entry meetings after hospitalization or suspension

• Staff consultation, parent workshops, and care coordination

How you can help:Please complete this consent form to share your child’s insurance information. Families who do not wish to provide information can also indicate that on the same form.

As we look ahead on the calendar, some upcoming districtwide observances in SUESD include Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15), LGBTQ+ History Month (October), and College & Career Week (October 20-25). On 9/27/25, the Fall 2025 Rainbow Conference will be held at Watsonville High School.  This is a day of celebration, community, and learning for LGBTQIA2S+ students, their allies, and the adults who support them

Thank you for sending your students to us on a daily basis, the more your child is in school, the more they will learn!  If your child needs to be absent you can access the short term independent study option here.  Students who complete the short term independent study receive attendance credit.

In closing, thank you for driving safely in our parking lot;  your safety and student safety is of the utmost importance.  Also, please do not leave your car unattended in the pick up and drop off lanes.  If you need to exit your vehicle, please park in the parking lot.

Apoyo a la salud mental en SUESD

En SUESD, creemos que la salud mental estudiantil es fundamental para el éxito académico. Cada escuela cuenta con consejeros atentos y, a través de la Iniciativa de Salud Conductual Infantil y Juvenil (CYBHI) del estado, ahora podemos recibir un reembolso por el apoyo que ya brindamos.

Qué significa esto para las familias:

• No tiene ningún coste para usted.La facturación nunca afectará sus copagos, deducibles o límites del plan.

• Apoyo sostenido.El reembolso nos ayuda a mantener a los consejeros en sus puestos, incluso cuando otros distritos recortan puestos.

• Mismos servicios.Los estudiantes continuarán recibiendo el mismo apoyo, tengan o no seguro.

Al mirar hacia el futuro en el calendario, algunas de las próximas celebraciones del distrito en SUESD incluye el Mes de la Herencia Hispana (del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre), el Mes de la Historia LGBTQ+ (octubre) y la Semana de la Universidad y la Carrera (del 20 al 25 de octubre).El 27/9/25 se celebrará la Conferencia Arcoíris de Otoño de 2025 en la Preparatoria Watsonville. Este es un día de celebración, comunidad y aprendizaje para el alumnado LGBTQIA2S+, sus aliados y los adultos que los apoyan.

Gracias por enviarnos a sus alumnos a diario. Cuanto más tiempo esté su hijo en la escuela, más aprenderá. Si su hijo necesita ausentarse, puede acceder a la opción de estudio independiente a corto plazo aquí.  Los estudiantes que completan el estudio independiente a corto plazo reciben crédito de asistencia..

Para terminar, gracias por conducir con cuidado en nuestro estacionamiento; su seguridad y la de los estudiantes son de suma importancia. Además, por favor, no deje su auto sin supervisión en los carriles de entrada y salida. Si necesita salir de su vehículo, por favor, estacionarlo en el estacionamiento.

10/6 - 10/10: Conferencias de padres, los estudiantes salen temprano en estos días

13/10, 14/10: No hay escuela para estudiantes

11/11: Día de los Veteranos, no hay clases para los estudiantes
