Main St Parent Newsletter 12/15/25

Hello Main Street Families,

The last school week of the calendar year is upon us…how did the time pass so quickly?  Thank you for your support during this first half of the school year, and for sending your student(s) regularly!

A big thank you to art instructor Mandi Lopez (funded by FOMS) for her efforts in showcasing student art at last week’s Main Street Art Show! The multi-use room was transformed into a gallery of amazing student work…Thank You Mandi!

A reminder that Main Street School is participating in the Annual Second Harvest Food Drive, and if you’d like to donate non perishable food items, please bring them to school, we do have a barrel inside the office.  You can also make a direct donation to Second Harvest online.

Your student may have (or will be bringing) brought home a Grocery Outlet Shopping Card.  If you shop at the Capitola location and scan your card, 5% of your purchase will be donated to Main Street School.  If you did not receive your card, there are more in the office

This week on Wednesday, December 17th the Banana Slug String Band will perform for our students in the multi use room. There will be a performance for TK-2nd students from 10:10-10:35 AM, and for 3rd-5th students from 9:30-10:00 AM.

Coming up on January 6th-9th, during the first week of school after Winter Break, FOMS is organizing a Free Book Swap.  Families are invited to bring in any gently used children's books they are no longer in need of and grab some new reads in return! This is a great way to refresh home libraries and get ready for lots of reading ahead. Drop-off and browsing details will be shared soon.

Also reading related, FOMS is also organizing the Main Street Read-A-Thon: January 11th - 23rd.  During this nearly two-week event, students will seek pledges from family and friends and then hit the books, reading as much as they can while raising funds that directly support our school. More information on how to participate will be coming soon, so stay tuned!

Thank you, as always, for your generosity, involvement, and for being a part of the Main Street community. These events are possible because of you - and they make a meaningful difference for our students and staff.

The latest attendance rates for Main Street show that for the period of August through October, compared to last year our attendance rate is up 0.4% to 96.2%. While any increase is welcomed, I noted that other schools in our district made at least a 1% gain for the same time period.

Thank you for sending your students to us on a daily basis, the more your child is in school, the more they will learn!  If your child needs to be absent you can access the short term independent study option here.  Students who complete the short term independent study receive attendance credit.  

I hope that you create some wonderful memories with your student(s) during the upcoming winter break (December 22-January 5). The first day of school after the break is Tuesday, January 6, 2026

Hola familias de Main Street,

Ya llegó la última semana de clases del año... ¿cómo pasó el tiempo tan rápido? ¡Gracias por su apoyo durante esta primera mitad del año escolar y por enviar a sus estudiantes con regularidad!

Muchísimas gracias a la instructora de arte Mandi López (financiada por FOMS) por su esfuerzo al exhibir el arte estudiantil en la Exposición de Arte de Main Street de la semana pasada. La sala multiusos se transformó en una galería con increíbles trabajos estudiantiles... ¡Gracias, Mandi!

Les recordamos que la Escuela Main Street participa en la campaña anual de recolección de alimentos Second Harvest. Si desean donar alimentos no perecederos, tráiganlos a la escuela. Tenemos un contenedor en la oficina. También pueden hacer una donación directa a Second Harvest en línea.

Es posible que su estudiante tenga (o traerá)trajo a casa una Tarjeta de compras de Grocery Outlet. Si compra en la sucursal de Capitola y escanea su tarjeta, el 5% de su compra se donará a la Escuela Main Street. Si no recibió su tarjeta, hay más en la oficina.

Esta semana el miércoles 17 de diciembre la Banda Banana Slug se presentará para nuestros estudiantes en el salón multiusos. Habrá una presentación para estudiantes de TK a 2.º de 10:10 a 10:35 a. m., y para estudiantes de 3.º a 5.º de 9:30 a 10:00 a. m.

Del 6 al 9 de enero, durante la primera semana de clases después de las vacaciones de invierno, FOMS organizará un intercambio de libros gratuito.Se invita a las familias a traer libros infantiles usados ​​que ya no necesiten y a cambio recibir nuevas lecturas. Es una excelente manera de renovar las bibliotecas de casa y prepararse para mucha lectura. Próximamente se compartirán los detalles de entrega y consulta.

También se está organizando la FOMS para la lectura relacionada…Maratón de lectura en Main Street: del 11 al 23 de enero.  Durante este evento de casi dos semanas, los estudiantes buscarán donaciones de familiares y amigos y luego se pondrán a leer todo lo que puedan mientras recaudan fondos que apoyan directamente a nuestra escuela. Pronto les daremos más información sobre cómo participar, ¡así que estén atentos!

Gracias, como siempre, por su generosidad, participación y por formar parte de la comunidad de Main Street. Estos eventos son posibles gracias a ustedes y marcan una diferencia significativa para nuestros estudiantes y personal.

Las últimas tasas de asistencia de Main Street muestran que, entre agosto y octubre, en comparación con el año pasado, nuestra tasa de asistencia aumentó un 0,4 %, alcanzando el 96,2 %. Si bien cualquier aumento es bienvenido, observé que otras escuelas de nuestro distrito lograron un aumento de al menos el 1 % durante el mismo período.

Gracias por enviarnos a sus alumnos a diario. Cuanto más tiempo asista su hijo a la escuela, más aprenderá.Si su hijo necesita ausentarse, puede acceder a la opción de estudio independiente a corto plazo aquí. Los estudiantes que completan el estudio independiente a corto plazo reciben crédito de asistencia.

Espero que puedas crear algunos recuerdos maravillosos con tu alumno(s) durante las próximas vacaciones de invierno (del 22 de diciembre al 5 de enero). El primer día de clases después de las vacaciones es el martes 6 de enero de 2026.
