Hello Main Street Families,

Welcome to 2026!  I hope that you created some wonderful memories with your student(s) during the winter break; students return to school on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

Friday (1/9/26) will be the 90th day of the school, which means that students will have completed half of their school year!  Enjoy the ride because May 28th (last day of school for the 25/26 school year) will be here before you know it.

Coming up in the first week of February we have parent conferences, and they will be held during the week of February 2-6.  Though not all families will be contacted for a conference, any family that would like to have a conference can request one; simply contact your child’s teacher.  During conference week students leave at the following times:

TK/K - 11:30 AM       1st/2nd/3rd - 11:50 AM        4th/5th - 12:00 noon

Your student should have brought home a Grocery Outlet Shopping Card.  If you shop at the Capitola location and scan your card, 5% of your purchase will be donated to Main Street School.  If you did not receive your card, there are more in the office

During this first week back ( January 6th-9th) FOMS is organizing a Free Book Exchange.  Families are invited to bring in any gently used children's books they are no longer in need of and put them on the shelves/in the totes placed in front of the MU, and grab some new reads in return!  Contributions are welcomed but not required for families who would like to take books for their children; we welcome all the Main Street to come and take advantage of this free event. This is a great way to refresh home libraries and get ready for the Main Street Read-A-Thon (see below).

FOMS is organizing the Main Street Read-A-Thon: January 11th - 23rd.  During this nearly two-week event, students will seek pledges from family and friends and then hit the books, reading as much as they can while raising funds that directly support our school. More information on how to participate will be coming soon, so stay tuned!

Thank you, as always, for your generosity, involvement, and for being a part of the Main Street community. These events are possible because of you - and they make a meaningful difference for our students and staff.

On January 28th, at 6:30 PM, in the NBMS PAC, all families are invited to a ‘Community Voice Gathering’, hosted by district superintendent Scott Turnbull.  This event will be an opportunity for community engagement on all aspects of our school district, and I hope to see you there.

Thank you for sending your students to us on a daily basis, the more your child is in school, the more they will learn!  If your child needs to be absent you can access the short term independent study option here.  Students who complete the short term independent study receive attendance credit.

Important Dates:

1/19/26: Martin Luther King Jnr Day, no school for students

2/2 -2/6: Shortened days for parent conferences

2/9/26: Lincoln’s Birthday

2/16/26: President’s Day

Sincerely,

Craig Broadhurst
